Biographie :

Ambassador Jean-Jacques Elmiger was born 23 March 1952. A native of Geneva Switzerland, Ambassador Elmiger completed law school at the University of Geneva.
Before ascending to his current position at the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO), as Chief of International Labour Affairs, Ambassador Elmiger served as judicial Council for an insurance provider. The Ambassador has remarkable history in the domain of international policy. He has conducted negotiations with the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) and the Commission of the European Union. Additionally, he has worked closely with international organizations, such as the United Nations (UN), its organs (CsocD) and specialized agencies, such as International Labour Organization (ILO) or UNESCO. He also worked closely with the Organization of Economic Corporation and Development (OECD) and the Council of Europe. Finally, the Ambassador has had a long and close working history with the International Labour Organization (ILO). He has been the governmental delegate of the Swiss Confederation to the ILO since 1986. Also, the Ambassador has served as Chairman of several ILO Commissions including the Application of Standards ; the Finance Commission, and currently the Commission for the strengthening of ILO capacities. In June 2002 Ambassador Elmiger has been elected Chairman of ILO. As Swiss delegate to the Governing Body of the ILO, Ambassador Elmiger chaired the GB in 1999-2000 as well as the Working-Group of the GB on the social dimension of globalization and other GB Committees.
In February 2003, Ambassador Elmiger has been elected Chairman of Commission for social development (CsocD) at the UN, in New York.
